Wind and thunderstorm losses in Midwest states have reached an unusually high level in 2008. Due to most of the events being smaller, frequency events, cat retentions on reinsurance programs have not often been breached, leaving companies with several smaller net losses impacting their results. This issue discusses 2008 Wind and Thunderstorm events in the Midwest and Gen Re's study of historical PCS loss data for the Midwest and how clients can better manage their loss experience through disciplined accumulation and product management.

Expanding Personal Lines Exposures – Residential Oil and Gas Boom – Hazardous Times
In this edition of Hazardous Times we examine the potential Personal Lines exposures arising from the residential oil and natural gas boom occurring in several regions across the country. Oil and natural gas exploration firms have begun approaching an increasing number of homeowners and farmers seeking to obtain the rights to oil and natural gas that may sit beneath their property. Personal Lines carriers have begun to see an increasing number of insureds seeking advice and possibly coverage for third-party bodily injury, property damage and pollution claims arising from drilling operations on the insureds' land.
